In memoriam György Fekete

Memorial meeting on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the passing away of György Fekete

On 14 April the Hungarian Architectural Museum and the Monument Protection Documentation Center (MÉD MDK) organized a roundtable discussion at Vigadó to commemorate György Fekete, the late honorary president of HAA and late Artist of the Nation, who passed away on 15 April 2020. The event was welcomed by Kornél Almássy, director of the Hungarian Architectural Museum, and Attila Turi, President of HAA.
In his welcoming speech Kornél Almássy, director of the organizer MÉD MDK recalled that György Fekete was "always ready to stand up for the cause of applied arts, more specifically the profession of interior design, and to debate with colleagues or politicians." He added that the late HAA president considered the new building of the Center, which already has an approved building permit, to be a matter of great importance, so "I am pleased to report to you and to him that we are already on the verge of implementation."
The participants of the memorial session were then able to learn about György Fekete's career in a lecture by art historian Hedvig Dvorszky, a regular member of HAA. The following roundtable discussion was attended by art historian Balázs Feledy, graphic designer Ernő Sára, head of the HAA's Applied Arts and Design Section, and interior designer István Szenes, a regular member of HAA. The moderator was Judit Juhász, spokesperson for HAA. During the event it was possible to view György Fekete's designs as well as his awards and decorations thanks to his family.
