Franco Nero at Vigadó
A press conference was held at centre of HAA on 19 May 2025 on the occasion of Franco Nero's stay in Hungary. During his more than sixty-year career the artist appeared in 235 cinema or television productions, including Hungarian films such as Honfoglás, Sacra Corona or Julianus. Pál Oberfrank, director of the Veszprém Petőfi Theatre, said that the actor, who has a famously good relationship with our country, was invited back to our country out of respect for him.
They wanted to present the artist and the Veszprém audience with a special evening, and Franco Nero gladly accepted the invitation. He participated in a biography interview interspersed with Italian and Hungarian musical interludes - including the song "Honfoglás" - at the theater, where Zsuzsanna Kellerné Egresi, the theater's deputy director and creative director questioned the artist, also touching on personal topics.
At Vigadó it turned out that although the eighty-three-year-old actor has an amazing career behind him, he has no intention of slowing down: currently, in addition to trying himself as a director, he is working on a total of fifteen films around the world; some of which he is filming in our country, but also some that he is making in Germany or Australia. He has only spoken briefly about the productions currently in preparation, but it turned out that he will play Federico Fellini in one of them; all this may also be particularly important to him, because it is known about the actor that he is very sad that he did not have the opportunity to appear in any of the works of the Italian director genius. He also said that he is still in love with the movie screen, he is filled with great enthusiasm when he acts; if this feeling ever disappeared from him, he would give up his profession.
During the conversation, it turned out that he felt himself best in Tokaj and its surroundings in Hungary, where he filmed the film Mario, the Wizard. He really likes Hungarian wines, as he jokingly added, they are almost as good as Italian ones, and he has been friends with director Gábor Koltay since Sacra Corona.
He also revealed: he considerd our country a great country, finds our history fascinating, and loves Hungarian people, and that he has only experienced kindness in Hungary so far. In response to a question he said that he would soon return to one of his earliest successes and would play Django again more than sixty years after the classic Italian spaghetti western. He can't talk much about it yet, but the sequel, entitled Django Lives, would take place in 1915, i.e. during the silent film era, in the Hollywood studio system, where the former gunfighter works as a stablehand, but his peaceful days are over when he and a colleague head for Mexico - it is not clear what would happen there, but he would probably have to take out his six-shooter again.
In the coming days Franco Nero is to visit the Holy Crown in the Parliament, then tour the Balaton Uplands, and in addition to the evening performance and the subsequent reception, he would also participate in the inauguration of a bench, during which he would leave his mark in Veszprém.
